Bridge Health Research is a health research charity in the process of registration as a Charitable Incorporated Organisation (CIO) in England and Wales. Our website is www.bridgehealthresearch.org and you can contact us at hello@bridgehealthresearch.org.

2. What data we collect and why

We collect personal data through the sign-up and pre-registration forms on our website. The data we collect depends on which service you are registering for.

We collect: first name, last name, institutional email address, institution, country, role/position, and research field. We use this data to: verify your institutional affiliation, assess your eligibility for the programme, match you with a suitable mentor or researcher, and communicate with you about your application and match.

We collect: first name, last name, institutional email address, institution, country, role/position, research field, research sub-field, geographic area, what you bring to a collaboration, and what you are looking for in a collaborator. We use this data to: verify your institutional affiliation and identify your country and income setting , build our researcher database, and match you with a suitable research collaborator when the service launches.

Donations

If you make a donation via our website, payment processing is handled by a regulated third-party provider. We do not store your payment details. We may collect your name and email address for Gift Aid purposes, where you have consented.

Website usage

Our website may collect standard analytics data (such as pages visited and time on site) to help us improve the website. This data is anonymised and aggregated.

3. Our legal basis for processing your data

We process your personal data on the basis of:

  • Legitimate interests — to operate our matching services and fulfil our charitable purpose

  • Consent — where you have explicitly agreed to be contacted or to have your data used for specific purposes

  • Legal obligation — where we are required to process data by law

4. How we share your data

We operate a mediated introduction model. This means:

  • Your personal data is never shared with other researchers without your explicit consent

  • When we identify a potential match, we contact both parties separately and ask whether they consent to an introduction

  • Only if both parties consent do we share contact details — and only with each other

  • Your data is never sold, rented, or passed to third parties for marketing purposes

We may share anonymised, aggregated data (for example, the number of researchers registered by country or income setting) for reporting, research, and commercial purposes. This data cannot be used to identify you.

5. How long we keep your data

We retain your data for as long as you remain an active participant in our programmes or database. If you withdraw from our database or request deletion, we will remove your data promptly. We may retain minimal records (such as anonymised outcome data) for reporting purposes.

6. Your rights

Under UK GDPR you have the right to:

  • Access the personal data we hold about you

  • Correct any inaccurate data we hold

  • Request deletion of your data at any time

  • Object to how we process your data

  • Withdraw consent at any time where consent is our legal basis for processing

To exercise any of these rights, please email hello@bridgehealthresearch.org. We will respond within 30 days.

If you are unhappy with how we handle your data, you have the right to complain to the Information Commissioner's Office at www.ico.org.uk.

7. Data security

We take the security of your personal data seriously. All data is stored securely and access is restricted to the Bridge Health Research co-founders. We use institutional email verification to ensure the integrity of our database.
